20A Dual Battery MPPT Solar Charge Controller

High Efficiency  |  12V/24V Auto-Select  |  Up to 100V PV Input

The Photonic Universe DM2024 is a high-efficiency 20A dual battery MPPT solar charge controller designed for robust solar power systems. It intelligently manages solar input to charge two independent battery banks, making it an ideal solution for campervans, motorhomes, boats, and other off-grid applications requiring both a primary (leisure) and secondary (starter) battery.

Utilising advanced Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) technology, this controller ensures your solar panels operate at peak efficiency, significantly outperforming traditional PWM controllers. It supports solar panel arrays up to 260W for 12V battery systems or 520W for 24V battery systems, with a wide solar input voltage range up to 100V.

DUAL BATTERY FOCUS: Charges a main battery with high power and provides a trickle charge of up to 1A to a secondary battery, ensuring both are maintained.

Key Features

▶  MPPT Technology — Maximises solar energy harvest with >95% tracking efficiency.
▶  Dual Battery Charging — Independently charges two battery banks (main and secondary).

Charging & Battery Modes

The DM2024 controller offers intelligent charging for optimal battery health and system performance.

Feature Description
Main Battery (BATT1) Charging Receives the majority of the solar power for primary energy needs. Compatible with Gel, AGM, Lead-Acid Flooded, and Lithium (LiFePO4 or Li-NiCoMn) battery types.
Secondary Battery (BATT2) Charging Receives a trickle charge of up to 1A to keep it topped up and ready for use, typically a starter battery.
Automatic System Voltage Automatically detects 12V or 24V system voltage upon connection of the secondary battery.
Temperature Compensation Built-in temperature sensor and optional remote sensor optimise charging for lead-acid batteries and provide low-temperature protection for lithium batteries.
Low-Power Mode System automatically enters a low-power state when not in use to reduce standby consumption.

Typical Applications

Application Description
Campervans & Motorhomes Efficiently charges leisure batteries for onboard appliances while maintaining the vehicle's starter battery.
Boats & Marine Vessels Manages power for service batteries and ensures the engine start battery is always ready.
Off-Grid Cabins & Sheds Powers lighting, small appliances, and other electrical needs in remote locations with dual battery setups.
Specialised Vehicles Suitable for utility vehicles, mobile workshops, or any system requiring reliable charging for two independent battery banks.

Built-In Protection Functions

The Photonic Universe DM2024 controller incorporates a comprehensive suite of electronic protection features to ensure system safety and longevity. These include: Reverse Current Protection (at night)  •  Over-Charging Protection  •  Short Circuit Protection  •  Reverse Polarity Protection (PV and Battery)  •  Over-Discharge Protection  •  Over-Temperature Protection  •  PV Over-Current/Power Protection. The controller casing is water-resistant to an IP33 rating when installed, offering protection against sprays of water at up to 60 degrees from vertical.

Common Questions

What types of batteries are compatible with this controller?

The main battery (BATT1) is compatible with Gel, AGM, Lead-Acid Flooded, and Lithium (LiFePO4 or Li-NiCoMn) batteries. The secondary battery (BATT2) is typically a lead-acid type and receives a trickle charge.

Can I use this controller with only one battery?

Yes, the controller can function with a single battery connected. It will automatically detect if only one battery is present and direct all charging current to it.

What is the maximum solar panel voltage this controller can handle?

This controller can accept a maximum solar panel open circuit voltage (Voc) of 100V, providing flexibility for various panel configurations.

Does it come with a user manual?

Yes, the controller is supplied with a detailed user manual that explains wiring and operational procedures.

Installation Notes

  • Ensure all connections are tight and secure to prevent voltage drops and overheating.
  • Connect batteries to the controller first, before connecting solar panels. Disconnect in the reverse order.
  • Install the controller in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight and moisture, to ensure proper heat dissipation.
  • The two battery banks must have the same rated voltage (12V or 24V).
  • The secondary battery should be connected first for automatic system voltage recognition.

Before You Buy

  • Verify your total solar panel power does not exceed 260W (12V system) or 520W (24V system).
  • Confirm your solar panel open circuit voltage (Voc) is below 100V.
  • Ensure your primary and secondary battery banks are of the same nominal voltage (12V or 24V).
  • Check compatibility of your main battery type (Gel, AGM, Flooded, Lithium) with the controller's settings.
  • Consider if an optional remote meter (MT11) or Bluetooth module is required for advanced monitoring and parameter adjustment.
